A little off-topic but an exceptional piece – rare, but perhaps less rare than having a spouse who is a Colt Lightning collector (and shooter)!

I’d be hoping my spouse didn’t spot it or have it pointed out to her !nice gun but not keen on the price tag
To be fair, don’t you think she deserves something very nice after he bought that 36 inch barreled Model 1895 for himself??

She’s already spied that one. I’d love for her to have it and she deserves it for, oh, so many reasons. Chiefly, for putting up with me for so many years! Sadly, that one’s a budget breaker.
In my defense, the 36″ 1895 just leveled things up after her last Lightning, a 90%+ full nickel large frame. Come to think of it, I may just need another nice 1895 to catch back up to her.
Sorry, but I don’t seem to be able to post a picture of the large frame this morning. Mark

Mark – can I suggest another 36 inch barreled Winchester to level things back your way? A M1886, M1876, M1892, M1894 or M1873 – any of these with a 36 inch barrel would be a great companion to that M1895 you have. By the way, I hope we are able to see a photo of that full nickel plated Colt large frame rifle. I’ve never seen a full nickel large frame. And 90% condition – sounds very sweet!

That’s how I got my Henry, just leveling things up. I told her if she bought what she wanted I would do the same. She did so I did.

Steve,
I believe that came just 5/box, but I agree… I would fork over some decent $$$$ to own an original period box of them.
I’d probably try to shoot them. 😉 Of course that would probably involve a rifle.

Wouldn’t that make a great display! One of each model w/ 36″ barrels. One down and five to go. Better throw in a M1885 as well. I don’t think I’ll live long enough to put that collection together.

Yes, throw in the single-shot as well. It would be the easiest of the group to find. As I think back over the years, I think I have had an opportunity to purchase every model in the group we’ve mentioned, with the possible exception of the M1895. I’m not recalling ever seeing a 36″ M1895 for sale. By the way, I have seen two 36″ medium frame Colt Lightnings for sale. Truth be told, I would rather have a 36 inch barreled Winchester lever rifle over a Colt.
