I just looked at a gun for sale, 1886 Win, 45-70 made 1887, 1/2 round 1/2 octagon barrel, excellent bore. Redone in 1970s by a woman Austrian engraver. The most beautiful full coverage engraving I have ever seen, frame, barrel, hammer, lever, butt plate all engraved, barrel reblued, everything else case colored. Mountain scenes with gold inlay mountains on the frame with 4 gold big game animals. Stock is carved in an elaborate pattern, super deluxe wood. Everything is the highest art quality and in new condition.

As great as it is, it is modern era work on an antique gun. On the butt plate is engraved in small letters, custom made for (an unknown person).

Price is $10K. I guess you have to look at it as an art piece rather than a Winchester collectible. Any thoughts?

I would agree with you… it is a piece of art, but not necessarily a collectable “Winchester”.
