What butt pads and grip caps were these guns offered with? I’m looking at one with a solid red Winchester pad and the grip cap doesn’t have the Winchester writing. Its a Winchester cap but metal and no words. Gun is 1956 time frame. Thanks.

Mike,

Winchester on special order offered the solid red rubber recoil pad. I have not ever seen one with an unmarked grip cap. What is the serial number on the rifle in question? Does it have checkered stocks?

It does have checkered stocks and sling swivels. 43429. It has the black spacer and hasn’t been sanded anywhere. The gun is in 98%+ condition. IT doesn’t look to be fired since leaving the factory. When I cleaned the 1/8" of dust from inside the receiver there’s virtually no wear or marks inside. Bolt face is pretty much spotless. LOP is 14". I pulled the buttstock and it looks like its 100% legitimate. No evidence of any kind of refinish or tampering.Thanks.

Mike,

There were some late production Model 64 Deer Rifles made with plain blued steel grip caps very near the end of its production. I would be willing to bet that the same thing happened to the late Model 71 Special Rifles.

Do you remember what type of rear sight was one the rifle you looked at?

It has the standard rear barrel sight. What I call a clover leaf . Thanks.
