So, was it in the beginning (year 1892) or later (about 1894-95)? Reading different books gives different answers…Calibers .44-40 and .38-40 have that large magazine tube opening, so it would be reasonable to think that the smaller diameter tube hole was constructed later for the calibers 25-20 and 32-20, or am I right?
The 32-20 cartridge was developed in 1882 and was produced in the model 1873 & 1885 long before the 92. So why wouldn’t it have been available in the model 1892 since day one? Everything I’v e ever read states this as such. In fact on latest edition of Madis Book pg 386 has serial #8615 in 32w.c.f. and that is in the year 1892.
Now per Madis the 25-20 w.c.f. wasn’t introduced until 1895. But other sources state 25-20 w.c.f. introduced in 1893.
Sincerely,
Maverick

Yes, I know when the .32-20 was first introduced. The question came from Arthur Pirkle´s book "Models 1886 & 92", which says on page 105 that .32-20 was introduced in model 1892 in the year 1895. Then, I remember reading somewhere (cant remember where) that both the .25&.32-20 were introduced simultaneously in model 1892 and the year was 1893. That made me a little uncertain, so I decided to ask from those who know better than me…
Leverfan,
The Pirkle book is obviously incorrect with respect to the 32 WCF introduction. The first 25-20 WCF Model 1892 rifles (by DOM / fully assembled rifles entered in the warehouse) appear in the SN 34,000 range during 1895. There are earlier rifles by SN but they were made from receivers which sat a LONG time before assembly.
