Does anyone have any information on the Winchester New Haven plant Guard’s issued M94 30WCF rifles? I have found one which was reported to be an unfired excellent condition M94 S/N 1326781. It was owned by the long deceased Winchester plant Guards daughter. The daughter stated that the rifle was issued to her father early in WWII when he worked at the New Haven plant. That he carried the rifle to work everyday and never fired it. After inspecting the barrel, chamber and bolt, it appears as she claimed unfired. The stock and forearm are excellent and bluing next to perfect, with some wear only on the lever at the receiver area. No Box or papers. I have the Guards name which might be possible to verify but if CFM says it never left the factory after being assembled it might be a lead. The Store is asking $2400.00 tax included. I was not able to photograph it yet but it seems to be an amazing rifle with some history.

Winchester (Cody) does not have any surviving records to tell us if that Carbine was shipped.

The PR records tell us that it was serialized March of 1942, which would fit the story time frame perfectly.

Thanks Bert. Ill have to try other methods to verify the story. Be great to find a picture with the Guard holding the Carbine at the checkpoint at Winchester Ave and Henry St during the war. The 94 has no wear except very minor on the butt plate. I was told by another Winchester, Plant guard from the 1960s that it was not uncommon for the company to issue a weapon to a guard without the employee having to qualify with or fire it.

Thanks, That’s what I was thinking, a letter along with any existing Winchester items or documents and photos.

I wish there were records for these weapons, I wonder what the letter would say S/N applied 3/42 and maybe a warehouse date but no shipping date. pretty cool!

Would an issued rifle not be accounted for at the end of the war? I know all the stories of guys bringing back their M1 Carbine and such but in reality. Those weapons belonged to the government and if you didn’t have the one issued to you to turn back in they took it out of your pay. Or so I have been told.

Granted What Winchester did on Winchester property would have little to do with what went on with a solider returning from Europe or Okinawa etc.

Would Winchester basically be giving away a rifle?
