Looks like others I have seen with the knurled cap.

That Winchester Model 55 has been listed for years on Gun Broker. I have no idea what he wants for it, but I have seen the bidding go as high as $2500.00 and didn’t meet his reserve. It might have gone higher at some point in time but I got tired of watching it. Looks like it had a Lyman Receiver Sight on it at one time, the screws are there to mount it.

I have seen this rifle before, and it was not factory threaded for a silencer.Bert
Bert ?
With no Winchester Factory Records available for the time frame this Winchester was made, how did you determine that this Model 55 Winchester did not come from the Factory with the threaded barrel? Is it because the front sight is cut back for the threads?

That is one of the clues. Another is the length of the threaded part of the barrel, and the way the threads were cut. On the verified factory special order rifles I have seen and handled, the threads are milled interupted just like a take down barrel. The Maximum silencers were made to install with a 1/4 turn versus spinning them all the way on.

It has two widely spaced non-factory holes that were most likely for a side mount scope. More than likely because the silencer made the front sight useless.

this is my first post on this site but have followed along for a couple of
years decided to register a short while ago and decided to add to the
post. on marlin rifles the maxim silencer will be found installed 3 different
ways one way included a coupler . the end of the barrel was threaded
then the coupler was threaded with the interrupted threads. was this
commonly found on Winchesters?
after reading my last post I realized that I mistakenly stated that the
coupler was screwed on the the end of the barrel when it was simply
sliped over the end of the barrel and held in place by a sort of set screw
of sort. in short I read this in an article some time ago and I will try
to find it again and post it.

for all the confusion when this is what I should have posted to start
