Came across this imagine of the “Dalton Death Rifle”. Was wondering if anyone knew any more about it. The thing that caught my eye was the forearm. The forearm looks very short to be standard for a 86 Rifle to me. Thoughts anybody?
Sincerely,
Maverick

I remember reading somewhere that the Dalton gang all had brand new special order rifles, bought specifically for this job. Guess they wanted to make an impression.
I highly doubt that is true.

I visited the Coffeyville Museum years ago. As I recall they told me it was an 1886 Carbine in I think .45-70 or .45-90. They said they had the carbine in the museum, on loan from the owner, at one time but it was stolen from the museum. When the gun was recovered the owner declined to loan it to them a 2nd time.

keith said It was true for seven engraved Colt SAA’s. They were ordered through Simmons Hardware in St. Louis and delivered to a retailer in a small town in Oklahoma. I do not know about the rifles.
