Does anyone have any good step by step instructions for a complete disassembly of the 1892 rifles? I would like to be able to take one apart, and put it back together.

Thanks
Steve

Looks like a good book to have. I still plan on bringing it to a gunsmith the first time and letting him go through it completely, and clean it. That way I will know for sure everything is working as it should. I am sure it has many years of crud inside that all need to come out.

Thanks

Steve,

Ive got an 1892 takedown and reassembly guide for rifles and carbines that I wrote some years ago. Not many copies out there but I just had some printed up (I havent got the final cost from the printer yet). Shoot me an email at [email protected] and I will see what I can do for you.

Its about 38 pages, has 140+ color photos, illustrates the differences between large and small caliber parts, variations in parts, and covers the more common special order features.

Ok, you know I have to ask this question. How many of you have taken a 1892 totaly apart and put it back together. I just want to get a feel for diffuculty here. I am pretty mechanicaly inclined but some things are better left to a professional. Is it a nightmare or are the instructional maunals easy enough to follow through????

Most of the Winchester models arent really hard to take down. A little patience and forethought go a long way. The trick is really knowing the order in which things come apart and the easiest means necessary to get them apart. Its really amazing how simple the mechanics really are.

Update on dismantling my rifle. I ordered Chris’s manual, and it is great. I read it 4 time before I started just to get things in my head. It goes step by step with great pictures. As I took it apart I put all the parts in my big Ultrasonic cleaning machine. Wow it did a great job and the parts came out looking new with all of the crud from 100 years gone. The action is as smooth as silk now. Oh and it does shoot after cleaning so I must have done it right. Chris said if ya have any parts left over then start over. I did not have any parts left over.

My thanks to all of you. You are a great bunch of guys trying to help others with this wonderful hobby.
