Is the flaking only a problem on blued actions?

Somewhere i seem to remember reading that the heat treating for color case hardening was a problem too after the switch to nickel/crome steel.

Something about the nickel migrating towards the surface and causing color case hardening to deteriorate.

Am i totally bonkers?

Never heard of a problem with the case hardened receivers?  The color on these guns can fade to grey and then to silver if not taken care of and kept out of the light.
