Need ideas on how to get the little screw loose on the rear sight of the Winchester 1892. That little screw that will allow that insert to slide up and down. I have been using PB blaster as well as Kroil and it still will not budge. You really can’t put too much pressure on it like it is on the rifle. Wonder if I should remove sight and then try????? Ideas are very welcome
Thank
Steve
Use a little heat from a propane torch.

Steve,
You just want to whiff the heat to the part. Whiff it a few times then feel it with your hand. Keep whiffing the torch until the point you can’t keep your hand on it. Its just like passing your hand under a stream of hot water. Your hand gets a little warmer each time but if you kept your hand under the water you would get burned. Same thing here you don’t want to keep the torch on the part continuously or it will over heat and probably discolor. If you have a heat gun that would be safer to use. When you get it hot put some penetrant on the screw and try it. Heat causes the metal to expand which helps the penetant get in and loosen the threads.
If I were doing it I would have the sight off the gun and put it in a vise padded with brass or aluminum with the sight face up so you can put good pressure on the screw to keep from rounding it out.

I think I will remove the sight as well so I can get at it at the right angle. With it being on the rifle you really have to use a very small pocket screwdriver. I could actually leave well enough alone, but would like to get the thing loose just to have it fully functional. I like the heat gun idea. Will try that first and see if the penetrant will work better. Will keep you posted on my progress
Thanks

Steve,
Does it have to be moved to get it sighted in?

Steve,
I would leave it alone if it does not need to be moved.
