Old Pump Winchester 06 Question

Can anyone help to get an age for this Rifle 807049? Its in great condition. Maybe someone can suggest another site that can also help. Is there any value to this rifle? Thanks Ron[/img]

The problem with finding the DOM is the factory does not have records for that serial number and the lists of DOM don’t go that high. My guess it was a mid to late 30’s gun. Value of the gun depends if the gun is original and the amount of blue and if it bright, dull or thinning blue.

Actually, the factory did keep and have records for the serial number in question, and the Cody Firearms Museum research office has access to them. You can also look it up right here on the WACA website – https://winchestercollector.org/dates/

Model 06 serial number 807049 was manufactured in 1929. It is a parts clean-up rifle that was assembled using a Model 90 serialized receiver frame. Production of the Model 06 ended on March 10th, 1926 at serial number 685999. All of the parts clean-up Model 06 rifles were assembled using Model 90 receiver frames. Therefore, when looking up the DOM, you need to use the Model 1890 tables.

Ron,

There certainly is some value, but exactly how much is determined by the graded condition of the rifle.

Thanks very much.
I’m gonna take it to the range and see how it or I perform. Now what about cleaning after shooting. Does it have to be cleaned? Does it have to be striped down? Is there a basic cleaning site? Thanks Ron

Bert,

I used Madis’s DOM. Is the WACA DOM corrected using the polishing room data?

I’m glad you were able to see them. Now that I shot about 20 shorts should it and it works great, should it be cleaned or just oil the barrel? Do you know what distance it good to just test it with shorts? Seems to do a 1 inch group at 40 feet. All the stuff people tell me is great! Thanks Ron

The metal on all parts that I can see have been refinished. Wood likely as well. I would say it is worth around $375 if it has a good bore.

Nice 06. As far as value, yes value drops drastically in the collector market….but everyone isn’t a collector of original factory correct Winchesters. All Winchesters, and everything else too, is worth what someone will pay for it. That’s why auctions are a popular way to sell, and a poor way to buy. IMHO

Would someone know how to adjust the sites on my rifle? Don’t see any screws for adjustment. Is the a manual to show me how? Thanks again Ron

The windage is corrected by drifting the front sight in the dovevtail, the rear sight on the 06 was not adjustable for windage.  The elevation is adjusted by the small screw in the slit on the top of the rear sight (not the large front screw).  Turning the small screw clockwise raises the rear sight and counter-clockwise lowers it.

There is no specific manual for adjusting the sights on the Model 06 but here are detailed generic instructions:

I agree with Jeff but want to add that when you move the front site left it moves the point of impact right.  If move it right it moves the POI left.  Rear sight is another story.  Rear sights move the POI for windage the same direction the sight is moved.

Your rifle does not have the standard model 06 rear sight with a screw to adjust the elevation. It uses a elevator like in this picture to raise or lower the sight.

It sits in the slot and is moved forward or back to raise or lower the sight. HTH

I was not aware the 06 rear sight was not adjustable for windage?
