Does anyone know anything about the guy on GB with the inordinate amount of pre-64 NIB guns? Maybe his Kin had a gunstore with a lot of leftover stock!?!? Seems like shades of a couple of earlier M-70 and M-21 dealers whose names will go unsaid. I’ve had quite a few – but this guy – yikes.

Bob,

All that I will say about him and the guns he is selling "Caveat Emptor". I have in the past identified a fair number of his listings as bogus.

As I suspected – thanks Bert.

If its the same gentlemen that we have discussed before, one would think he would wise up some. I’m especially concerned about anything that comes with its original box as far as Winchesters are concerned.

Even today how many of us keep the box that something comes in?

It is the same fellow, and I doubt that he cares.

Hey Bob
If you are young enough to have a mother-in law There is hope for a new edition of your(excellent) book ! I like the Madis style with the pics and captions,(that your publisher disagrees with) ( only wish that the pics were in better detail (color would be a plus) these days this would be easier than it must have been for George
From someone who still enjoys the book format

Cheers

You are right that the use of pictures is easier now – even MUCH easier than my first edition. However, to produce great detail of each part of each and every specimen would be not only costly but irrelevant. I try to point out the most relevant details of any specimen, but not all, and particularly not repetitive things. I was smacked soundly on that issue. The color factor is also not as easy (or as inexpensive) as one may assume. Books like the Wilson series are astronomically costly to produce and are in effect nothing more than picture books, not reference material.
My thoughts regarding my upcoming CD effort will allow much more latitude in this regard.
Thanks for your input.

I totally agree that the Wilson books are "picture books". There are some nice details here and there but they generally have a lot of filler in between places.

One of the best reference books I have read (other than Bob’s of course Wink ) is Jim Gordon’s book on the model 1873. Some of Gordon’s book I found a little repetitive but he always seemed to show enough change in detail to keep me coming back. You also can’t beat George’s Handbook for a nice quick reference at gun shows. I usually carry it in my back pocket.

I think the CD effort will be a good medium ground to follow short of publishing a new edition.

Sincerely,
Maverick
