Winchester began drilling & tapping the Model 64 for the Lyman No. 56 receiver sight in August of 1933 (circa serial number 1091800). By serial number 1094100 all of them were drilled and tapped until the 219 Zipper was introduced. Approximately 25% of the Zipper rifles are not drilled & tapped.

Great news! I have several 64 rifles I’ve owned for years. All are D&T and until recently I was assuming the comparable model 94 timeline of early fifties was valid for them. No wonder the work looked factory.
This information amounts to an Xmas surprise gift for me!
Another question coming, but that for yet another thread.
Thanks Bert & Happy Holidays!

Does anyone have an idea why Winchester D&T’s the 64’s but not the 94’s until much later? Even after deleting the tang sight holes.
I suspect that it was because the Model 64 was a rifle, whereas the Model 94 at that that time was only offered as a Carbine. Also, the Model 64 was a higher grade (more expensive) gun than the Model 94. Winchester began drilling & tapping the Model 94 as a standard featrure nearly 20-years later than they did for the Model 64.
