I have the opportunity to pick up one of these in 85 to 90 percent original condition. It is the round barrel version. The guy wants 1500 dollars. Doesn’t sound like too bad of a deal what do you guys think?

Hello,

That would be quite a nice deal! You better get there before I do! When you get the rifle can I please get the SN for my survey? And is it a grooved top receiver?

Thanks
Michael

Did the single caliber marked M61’s show up in the later models that would have grooved receivers?

Hello,

Both the round barrel .22 Short or .22 Long Rifle are found with Grooved receivers up to 1957 based on the rifles I have seen in my survey. The >22 Long Rifle Shot only had the same receiver. And the .22Mag is obviously a single caliber and all had grooved receivers.

Interesting Michael, according to Schwings book the single calibers barrels were discontinued ’47 short, ’49 long rifle, and ’50 WRF. The grooved receivers supposedly showed up in ’54. Obviously we don’t know how long these single caliber barrels were still available at the factory……..maybe many years later. This is why I questioned the overlap earlier. The surveys of actual specimens tend to give us much more information to add to what all of our reference books show. Its probably safe to say single caliber grooved receiver guns are not going to be abundant (except for the magnums of course).
