Looking for opinions on this one. Did Winchester produce rifles with 21" barrels? Or has the barrel been cut? Serial number is out of the letterable range to verify with Cody.

Looks cut to me. The forearm should be shorter for a short barrel gun.

In the letterable range, Winchester manufactured (4) rifles with a 21-inch barrel.

In looking at the pictures of the subject rifle, I am willing to bet that the seller did not correctly measure the barrel length, and that it is actually 22-inches long. I see nothing in the pictures that looks out of character.

On rifles with 22" barrels, 23.7% have the 9 3/8" forearms.

I went back and got BOBR94’s notes on this subject but, I messed up and posted it in the wrong place. 🙄 Here it is.

Here is info from BOBR94 from when this subject was brought up before.

Hi guys,
I have been asked to comment so here’s my $0.02.

Rifles 24" – I have not seen one with a verifiably correct short forearm
[color=red:33e61aeabd]Rifles 22" – I have seen many of each – 35% long – 65% short [/color:33e61aeabd]
Rifles 20" 19" 18" – I have seen many of each but only 5% of long type is verifiably correct
Rifles 17" – haven’t seen one
Rifles 16" 15" – All I have seen are short-short (3rd length) 7- 1/8 +-
Carbines (haven’t seen a 19") – 18" (3) 33%short
Carbines (2-92s only) – 17" short
Carbines 16" – 5% long, 95% short (no 3rd length on carbines)
Carbines 15" 14" – all short
Carbines 12" (3- 92s only) – short

All rifles, to a fault, (that are correct) have the revised sight dovetail position 4” short – 5" long, and no evidence of anything amiss under the forend. The muzzle diameter is also a giveaway to sculduggery.

Admittedly, I have seen and examined quite a few 1894s but if you average the total to use only those that are letterable, my observational percentage is only around 1% or less – so……. be careful – it is what it is, NOT what you wish it to be. Exclamation

Regards to all,
Bob
