Hello,
I don’t have the answer yet but I am working on it. They are far from rare that is for certain. If I had to venture a guess right now without doing a lot of calculating from some spread sheets I would say at least 10% of the total production had button or half magazines. Interestingly, almost half of the rifles which I have surveyed from Australia have half mags. The 2/3rds and 3/4 length magazines are the hard ones to find.
Your rifle was serialized near the end of 1917. Does the bottom line of the tang stamp end with "& FGN"?
