I recently purchased a M94, early 1952 carbine in about 90% condition.
I would like to install Redfield or Lyman sights on the reciever BUT the rifle wasn’t drilled & tapped.
My question….how bad would I be messing up if I had this rifle drilled & tapped for sights? The Serial # 1,855,xxx could have been provided with this feature from the factory.

The collector value of the gun will drop to zero. The gun will have a shooter value that will not increase in price.
Many lower finish guns are available that are already drilled and tapped. The price of those are about the same as what you will spend to have yours drilled and tapped and the depreciation that you gun will have.
2nd option is purchase the shooter and sell you collector gun.
3rd option is that it is your gun and you can do what ever you like with it. Enjoy it and have fun.
Modifying a gun will always hurt the value, especially a 90% gun. Once the holes are drilled it can never be a original. You my not see the real drop in value today as much as in the future. I see 73’s that would be worth 10’s of thousands of dollars if it wasn’t for that moron that drilled a hole or hacked the end of the barrel off.
