I know most of you guys have seen my 3 digit 92. I’ve only had it for a short while and have said that I would probably never see another gun made in 1892 that wes in that condition, well I was wrong. I was on the way back from a Colt purchase yesterday and my buddy called to tell me I had to come see this Winchester and Colt he had at his shop. I took a detour and showed up at his store a couple hours later. He had this Winchester and the matching Colt Frontier Six Shooter with an etched panel from the same year. Story is that they were in the same family together since birth. I could only afford one right now so I bought the 73. Wow! is all I can say. 100% original with sling swivels and what I believe is a heavy barrel. I haven’t gotten in touch with Cody because they are at an event. The muzzle measures .809" at the tip. Thats about 1/8" wider than my 44-40 1892. I’ guess I’ll know on Monday or tuesday when I tal to Cody. It also has the original 4 piece cleaning rod. Most of the caseon the hammer ,lever and Butt Plate is still there. Bore is absolutely mint! Serial number puts it in 1888. How does something stay like this for 125 years?

Mike,
Nice looking 73. The barrel is a standard barrel, .809" is right in the middle for a standard 44 barrel.

I saw that too but they can get pulled out. It would be on the bottom of the forearm cap. It is inserted with a washer on the back side and then peened.

Good eye. I was waiting for the phone call from my buddy to tell me he had it but it will be tomorrow I guess. I asked him where it was when I bought it and he said the family said they "removed" it. They were lookin for it and he’s suposed to call tomorrow. If they don’t have it I may need to find one if you guys know where to get it.

Mike,
I have a feeling it will not letter with sling swivels. That is not a factory job on the forearm cap. They spot face a circle for the swivel so the swivel went in perpendicular to the barrel.

Mike, thanks. I just couldn’t see that in the pics. I’m familiar with sling swivels on 73’s, and have had several. One was an Atlanta Police marked rifle with over 95% original finish. Guess they never used it much. I agree with Bob though – that flat area under the forearm cap doesn’t look correct for a factory installed swivel.
