Sorry to hear that in the future non WACA people will not be able to post pictures or replies.
You will be able to post messages and replies, just no pictures.
Bert
To clarify, is that only during the 60 day guest login. After the 60 days you can not post or reply?

On the bottom of the main forum page it states that there are 2421 registered users ( as of 11:34 AM ). Does this refer to registered forum members or WACA members?
Paul
Speaking of changes, was anything brought up at the Cody show about the changes with the Cody membership?

Thanks for clearing that up.
From what I had read it appeared that after a 60 day period one would have to be a paid up WACA member to continue using the site.No posting replies or new threads etc.
For those of you who are not members of WACA, what is your reluctance to join?
As previously stated, you get a yearly calender, quarterly collector magazines and your membership fee helps promote Winchester collecting….plus you get continued full participation rights on the forum.
The cost is something like 12 cents a day.
Rapid taper, standard taper, extra heavy. All 45 caliber.

When this change takes place, they will need a way to tell if your a WACA member or not. Do you know the breakdown of WACA members vs forum members out of that number?
Paul
I haven’t seen any way to tell who is and who isn’t a WACA member. I just checked the member list and there are close to 90 new people that signed up today alone but most of them are spam artist from foreign countries and they still have to get approved before they are allowed to post.

Well said, I would have to ask the same question? I’m going to take the opportunity to think out loud here:
Logic would tell me the vast majority of participants on this forum actually own and occasionally, if not regularly buy and sell Winchester firearms. We spend quite a bit of money on these guns, One – because we love them and truly enjoy collecting and sharing them with our friends and fellow collectors. Two – we all believe they are a good investment and possibly a safe haven for our hard earned dollars in comparison to other option these days.
It just seems hard for me to believe that $45 for a membership is in question at all. To me the magazines and calendar alone are worth more than that. I love the magazine and usually read it cover to cover within a few days of receiving it. Also, I personally have gained an incredible amount of knowledge from just reading posts, and occasionally joining in on some productive and interesting conversation here. How do you put a value on this? If you learn one thing each year that potentially saves you from making a bad decision on a purchase it could be worth hundreds, if not thousands of dollars.
WACA is a wonderful organization with a great bunch of people managing it and keeping our hobby and passion alive. I’m proud to support it and contribute this minimal amount to help ensure its longevity.

Paul,
Yes, and our concerns were heard. Rob Kassab and Rick Hill met with senior management at the museum and negotiated some kind of compromise. I’ll let Bert, Rick, or Rob weigh in and share the news so that it is presented accurately.

It has been asked several times, but never answered, what % of the forum members are not WACA members. The fact that it has not been answered by those that know tells me that the number is pretty high. I am one of those that is not a member of WACA. I am not a club person, and the magazines and calendar don’t really interest me either. I belong to the forum to learn something first hand from people who are willing to give their time and expertise to people like me. Some of these folks belong to WACA and some do not. A lot of what I have learned is done via the phone and emails with these giving people. Another thing that comes along with this is honest, truthful, and meaningful relationships with some knowledgeable Winchester folks who are not hung up on huge egos. That’s hard to find these days for sure. Most of these people, I have never met before, but feel pretty close to, and also feel very lucky to have them in my life. I have to agree with Maverick on this issue of forcing folks to be WACA members in order for them to be able to participate in the forums. If the thought is that WACA will gain a bunch of new members by doing this, I think someone needs to rethink that, cause I don’t think that’ll happen, and there will be a lot fewer voices on the forum to boot. I think the folks who don’t belong to WACA, don’t belong for a reason, and for the most part, it’s not a money issue at all. If some of those issues are not brought up and discussed, I see a train wreck a’coming down the road. Just my opinion and not meant to offend anyone. Peter

Yes, and the BBHC agreed that WACA members will receive an additional (15) serial number searches for this year’s renewal.

Unfortunately, it will likely result in a fraction of the current membership. Other free forums will suck up the departures and add sections on Winchesters although many already have the same or similar threads.
The entirety of the internet provides basically free advice and information on a number of topics and that’s the ticket, IMHO.
If you want a small, specific, dedicated membership then that’s okay too.
You won’t be putting up with the young guys and the newbies or the casual/one-time user that inherits a rifle, etc., etc.. (who usually have to post photos in order to get info)
It’s been fun but if it goes to pay there are too many other forums where advice and information are gladly given. (plus you don’t have to pay and then be subjected to the occasional purist / "expert" thrashing I’ve witnessed…)
It really is not about the money but if you think it is then that will probably work for many who stay. I think it’s more of an intimidation factor for that general group I mention above.

To start this off, it is quite frankly none of your business what percentage of the current forum members are, or are not, WACA members. That information (and this website) belong solely to the WACA, and it is not for public dissemination.
What I will tell you, is that your statement
The fact that it has not been answered by those that know tells me that the number is pretty high.
is a flawed, misguided, and erroneous statement.
The goal of the upcoming changes that will be implemented is to improve the look and function of the website, and to grow the membership roster. Your opinions about the potential gain or loss to the WACA membership and forums has no actual basis in fact.
In the end, it is solely your decision to make concerning WACA membership, and we (the WACA) will not be holding our baited breath regardless of what you choose to do.

I now see in reading later posts that this statement is not correct , as after 60 days only paid members will be able to post.
Too bad, as a lot of people have knowledge of Winchesters ,but for one reason or another do not belong to the WACA.It was not that long ago that the WACA split from the WCA.
Thank you Bert for that kind post in regards to my opinion. That was a real sales pitch to say the least. I don’t think I deserved that response from you at all. Please remember that I said that I did not mean to offend anyone, and certainly not you. Thank you also for showing us all one of "the issues" I mentioned with this forum. Peter

Peter,
You are welcome, and you did indeed deserve the answer that I provided to you.
For some unknown reason, you seem to believe that you are entitled to information that is none of your business or concern. And when you mentioned "issues", I knew that it was a pointed jab in my direction… which you just admitted to! So, and in reality, you were intentionally being a jerk!

That is an incorrect statement. The WCA and WACA were never associated one another other than the few members that belonged to both organizations. The WCA folded (disbanded) several years ago, and the WACA picked up a few new members from that organization.

You are right the WCA and WACA were never associated with each other.Never said they were.
It was however mostly members from the WCA that left to form the WACA as they were not happy there . Later the WCA folded leaving only the WACA.
