Has anyone heard of a 1873 with no info available for an early gun (under 2000 serial #) Thanks,

Yes, and in fact, the same situation exists for nearly all of the various models. For no apparent reason, and totally at random, there will be an individual serial number entry in the factory ledgers that is blank. Based on my extended research of the Model 1885 records, I have found a few thousand blank serial number entries. Oddly enough, I have found more than 2-dozen of the rifles that have blank entries, which has lead me to believe that most (if not all) of the blank serial number entries were actually built and sold.
