
Local ‘toy’ store just bought this from the original owner’s wife. Owner just passed and swore he ‘bought it like this from Winchester’. Chambered in 32 Win special. S/n 20574XX.
She only wanted $200 … I offered to double their investment and nearly got tossed on me ear 😉 … kidding.
Anyway ever hear/see of anything like this? I think it’s hooey …

I have no knowledge of factory carvings, but I have seen a few deer. I’d say if it were a factory job, wouldn’t it have a bit more attention to detail? Wouldn’t the ear be more deer-like/less rounded at the tip? And wouldn’t the figure’s left antler show a more realistic branching?–As it is, the back branch seems to grow off a front tine. Also the background around the figure should be a bit more uniform in appearance?
I would vote for a homemade carving–still much better than I could do. (But I wouldn’t dream of carving on any of my Winchesters!)
Definitely 100% done after it left the factory.
