I realize that they are all at least 50+ yrs old & scope technology has come a LONG way, but if you desired to add a vintage scope to a pre-64 model 70, which vintage scope/mount would provide the best sight quality?? Thanks, Bill

Leupold Mountaineer 4X, Lyman Tru-Lock rings and bases:

The SK Mounts are modern, but really classy:

The following is not mine, but it shows off a Lyman All-American 4X, Redfield junior mounts and a one piece base (that I think is too short for this .270):

Bill,

My choice would be a Lyman Alaskan.

I have a M-70 .30-’06 made in ’51 and I’m going to put on a Redfield 1.5-5X Wideview with a dot reticle. Redfield medium rings on Redfield SR bases. I decided on low power so I can shoot large things at close range. Gary

Unertl 4x Hawk in low mounts on my 1948 .270 rifle. Came to me that way, believe it was on there a long time.

I always liked this set up on a vintage Model 70. It’s a Bausch and Lomb Balvar A on pre 64 300Mag.

I dont understand how there can be good answers without knowing chambering of rifle.
Eg: 22 Hornet, 300 Win Mag & 458 Win, would suggest different scoping. In addition to being period correct, it needs to be application correct to avoid being strange.
My take.

The Weavers are very handsome, especially the K2.5 with the brass ring:

Unfortunately, they did not become parallex free till a number of years after 1949.

Also, the Weaver rings look good but the bases are ugly.

The vintage Weaver Pivot Mounts with a Weaver K4 scope are classics.
