Hello, I am new to the forum and had a few questions for my Model 94 I recently acquired. I looked up the serial number and it came up as 1941/ year of manufacture. It is in decent shape, the bore is excellent, but it does have some surface rust on the barrel and receiver. It has never been altered, refinished, so it is important to me to keep the patina.
I have applied a coat of oil on the rifle, should I do anything more?
It is missing the butt plate. Would anyone have a photo of the proper butt plate that should be on there?
Is it difficult to find an original butt plate?
Thanks in advance. -Dave

I believe the buttplate for your gun is shown in the third photo on this auction.

I see them around from time to time so keeping an eye on ebay is probably the easiest way to find one. But, someone might have an extra one laying around.
Hello Autodave. A lot of collectors use a lot of different products on guns. If you have some rust on the blue that you want to get rid of, here is one discussion:

If you read back I’m sure you’ll find some more. Some like to carefully disassemble guns and clean them and others like to leave them alone. All I can say really is that gun looks like it’s got some history. I hope the bore is decent because it also looks like a fun gun to shoot!
What kind of wood is the table?
Brad
Thank You for the replies.
Brad- The bore is in excellent shape. The rifle has been in our family for a while, and was just handed down to me. I shot it about ten years ago, and am looking forward to taking it out again.
The wood table is made from a round slab of Parota (from Mexico/Guatemala) It’s a poormans Hawaiian Koa.
