94-takedown-1.jpg94-takedown-2.jpg
Found this rifle in TX few months ago. Model 1894 takedown in .25-35 WCF and non-checkered pistol grip stock. Made in 1896. The deal clincher was the case. No markings that I can find either inside or on the leather. Any ideas on who made the case or where it came from?

My first impression is that the dividers were not original to the case. They are made from too thick of wood. Is there wear in the lining of the case from the gun riding in it for years?

The wood thickness did seem a little much. There is considerable wear in the areas the two rifle parts are in. There were also 2 old boxes of Winchester ammo in the empty area, that area shows wear also.

I agree with 1873man that the wood inserts appear off or not original and most likely some type of repair. I will say that the case itself does look good and appears original to me from what photos you have posted. The case’s handle and the lock mechanism look very identical to a couple of cased guns that I’ve seen. If I had the chance to buy it, I would of jumped on the opportunity myself.

Sincerely,

Maverick

I think that case was repurposed from its original use which happens a lot. The wear in the top lining does not match what I think it should look like from the pictures provided.

I don’t know his 94 case looks pretty close to this two-barreled 92 cased set with loading tools. In fact I wonder if the 94 case’s empty area was for holding reloading tools just like this one.

Rearbearcat – Do you have or can you post a close up picture of the lock mechanism on the case?

Sincerely,

Maverick

I do not have any pictures of the lock with me, but it looks similar to the one in your picture. Also, my case had the tie down straps on both sides at one time. I can see where they were stitched on.
