Model 1894, SN 100955 (applied Nov 1900)

For years, I thought the hole was due to a missing screw/stud (see picture), but I’ve looked at other 94s and they all have the same ‘missing’ piece.  What was the purpose of that hole, assuming it was intentional?94-SRC.jpgImage Enlarger

The hole is used to access a pin during disassembly/assembly of components inside the receiver.

That hole is used in the  disassembly process.   It is used to remove the pin that connects the bolt & lever

Ahhhh, makes perfect sense, thanks!

This was handed down from my grandfather, he was in the insurance business and found it in the vault of a failed bank (probably in the 50’s, most likely NYC).

Not all. This is the receiver of a 1907 1894 rifle that somehow left the factory without the lever pin removal hole.
