I was at a LGS today and they had a 1957 vintage 62A. Gun was S,L and LR I believe. The thing that caught my attention was that the forearm was checkered. The receiver wasn’t roll stamped WINCHESTER like some I’ve read about. The forearm wasn’t a homemade job. The butt stock was smooth with no checkering. Were these guns offered like this or did someone swap a forearm?

Mike,

Mismatched wood is a strong hint that something is not original.

Thanks Bert. I know with most deluxe guns(94,92,71…) that BOTH pieces are checkered. I just wanted to make sure that these weren’t different for some reason. Thanks again.
