Edwin,

Are you sure that it is a Model 1894, and not a Model 1892? What is the serial number?

The model 94 Cheyenne Commemorative, made for the Canadian market was a .44-40.  Maybe this is what he has?

The serial number will confirm what it is.

Hi Bert

It is certainly a 1894 44-40 win.

Edwin,

Start with 16 grains of the 4198, and then work up from there. You can easily push it up to 44 Magnum load levels if you so desire.

In your Model 94, using 4198 powder, you can fill the case under the bullet (25-26 grains). Do not shoot that load in any handgun, or in a Model 1873 !

Great load I use in my M1892’s is a 200 gr. lead with gas check and 18 grains of H110. Super accurate and deadly on deer. I know as I have killed several with this load from a late M92 round bbl. rifle. I also won a Turkey Shoot on a running deer with this load at 100 yards. Also good on squirrels and rabbits.
