Did not find out much regarding a comparison between the lever action models in 357 Magnum.

What are the plus and minus for target shooting and small game like hogs.

Winchester 94, 92 and the 73?

As for the Winchester models, any of the 94 calibers will do considerably more damage than a 357 Mag.  As for the 92 and 73, any of the large calibers work fine on game (hogs, deer and the like).  Even the 32-20 has taken a few hogs. You would have to look up and compare the velocity, bullet weights, and energy of the 357 to see how they stack up against the Win calibers.

Never shot the 357 in a rifle but had a friend who loved it for coyotes, hogs or whatever.  My buddy and I were hunting the other evening and talking about the sidearms we carry when hog hunting.  We used to do quite a bit of hog hunting with dogs and the 357 Mag was the caliber of choice for a sidearm (used only for emergencies, almost always we stuck the hog instead of shooting for fear of damaging the dogs ears or mortally wounding one of them by accident).  Anyway, at one time he traded off his 357 Mag for a 44 Mag revolver thinking a larger caliber would be better to carry.  One night the dogs caught about a 300 lb boar, the hog broke loose from the dogs, wasnt too happy to tell it lightly, cut up a few dogs getting loose, and made a charge at him.  He said he shot that hog point blank twice coming at him and the hog kept coming taking his legs out from under him knocking him to the ground and his pistol in the brush, luckily the dogs got back on the hog and his attention was averted elsewhere.  He commented that he never had that happen with a 357 Mag and he soon after got rid of the 44 Mag and went back to the 357 Mag.

Hmmm… a 44 Mag was considerably more energy than a 357 Mag, and it makes a much bigger hole. I have to wonder how bad his shot placement was while the hog was charging him??

Your right, without a doubt, but I guess the best weapon for the job is in the eye of the beholder.  It aint easy to hit where you think your aiming when rushed and the adrenaline is pumping.  Wink  I thought it was kind of funny too but he firmly believes that to this day.
