Below you can see a pic i borrowed from one of Michael’s posts showing what i am referring to. I have an early 2nd model i am looking at that has this pin/screw arrangement and I thought at first it was a 2nd model thing, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. My reference books are at the office and we are iced in.
It is a second model feature. First models have the two screws but no trigger pin but there is a transition in the first models in the 27,000 range with the open tops that have the two screws and the pin. The third model is just just one screw that holds the tang in the receiver.

You can’t call a 73 a 2nd or third model base solely on the serial number range. Its by the features of the receiver. 3rd models start around 88,000 and 2nd models go beyond 100,000
