Hello! I inherited my father’s rifles when he passed: a ’56-58 Marlin .222 Varmint King Sako 422 and a ’59 Winchester Model 70 .300 H&H Magnum. I had the stocks refinished, so they’re probably not worth as much as they would be if I hadn’t, but I don’t plan on ever selling them, so it’s not a big deal. However, I am insuring them through my personal property insurance with USAA and need some sort of value to put on them. Right now, I have the Model 70 listed at $2200, but I have no idea if that’s even close. Serial number is 489763.
I really appreciate any information someone can give me on the Model 70, even if it’s just stories and history! Thank you for your time! Here are some photos:

Well John, Other than ‘congrats’ concerning all several of your nice rifles, believe you’ve introduced a timely topic concerning collection casualty insurance. Glad you achieved “expert valuation”!
Ordinarily, beyond such as your proper ‘valuation query’, insurance seeming off-topic here. But nowadays, with much of the nation under particular ‘new climate’ weather related disaster hazards… I’d like to know what, if any, considration/prep, our WCA collectors have taken. I’m with USAA insurance since it’s ultra inexpensive early seventies era made possible by then only insuring US military officers.
Nowadays, in California, wildfires of huge destruction, posing increasing ‘clear & present danger’!
No drill! Such, first instance of need to seriously consider adding collection specific rider.
Any others to chime in concerning their situation and whatever response?
Best & all Stay Safe!
John
