I am tracking Model 1895, 405, serial #53664 in an upcoming auction.  It has 24″ barrel, checkered stock, shotgun butt with rubber butt plate.  There is a barrel band for sling mount attached directly to the barrel just in front of the forend.  Is this factory correct or after market?  There does not appear to be a sling mount on the buttstock. The rifle otherwise appears correct.

Mac,

Aftermarket.  Factory sling mounts were dovetailed into the barrel.

Thanks Bert,  I couldn’t find any discussion of the sling in any of the reference material that I currently have.

I know this is not a 95 but here is a picture of an 85 with sling mounts.Winchester-1885-45-90-L.jpgImage Enlarger

I’d appreciate any thoughts or recommendations from forum aficionados with 1895 expertise.  My goal is to acquire a reasonably priced and shootable representative 1895 in .405.  The following link will take you to the listing.  Please see the photos for 132R.  We already discussed the barrel sling mount.  Are there any other discernible red flag show stoppers?  Thank you for your guidance and wisdom.

The 1895 .405 I listed in my last post went for $3,700.  I elected to pass.  Picked up a nice clean Model 55 in 30 WCF instead.
