Hi all
Thanks for letting me join in, it looks a great site with a wealth of information.
I am from Kent in the UK and have a couple of Winchester rifles my latest is a model 1895 sporting with a 28” barrel in .303 British. The rifle itself is in amazing condition however the bore is a little dark but with strong rifling, the serial number dates it to 1904.
so my main question is how scarce are these rifles, I have only seen a few for sale and even over in the USA they seem few and far between, secondary what sort of money would it be worth, I paid a fair bit for it but was cheap compared with others I have seen
Hi, Up here in Canada the Model 1895 with a 28″ barrel chambered in .303 British is among the most common calibre I have encountered over the years. I suspect that since the .303 was the British Commonwealth military cartridge for so many decades that it would have been a popular choice for veterans and ammo is readily available. . It is a very good calibre for hunting moose, black bear and deer.
As to to value I will leave that to more knowledgeable Winchester collectors.
Thanks for your reply Dave.
The value of it is only for interest as it is probably one on my favourite rifles in my collection and it is certainly a keeper, it shoots ok I could never compare it to the likes of my Accuracy International AW but for form, function and brilliant engineering it is top’s.
