The most likely reason for the ill-fitting butt stock is because it is not original to that rifle.  When somebody broke the upper tang, it undoubtedly destroyed the original stock.

Your Model 1894 has essentially zero value in the collector market, and maybe $300 – $400 as a parts gun.
