Gerald,

The light make the metal look dark so you can’t see any detail on the metal but I remember seeing it a few years ago on here., it looked real to me.

It looks right to me also. I’m going to stick my neck out and say $2800.00-3800.00…nice rifle but round barrel and no special features. What is the seller asking for it? Peter

Assuming that it is 100% original, that rifle would sell for a minimum of $5K at any of the larger auction houses.

Im no expert, but in that condition with that caliber my number was 5 to 7 if two guys in the same room both decided they had to have it. I dont think you can buy it off the shelf anywhere for 5k. its pretty nice, very basic but very nice.

I have one pretty similar cond. ser#350904 26″ r.b.-f.m.-38-55 that I’ve been asking $4,800.00 Canadian ($3,800.00U.S.) for with no takers yet. I sold one similar only with an oct.bbl. a few months back for$5,200.00 Cdn. Any ways a very nice piece and    very difficult to find in that condition.

My above thoughts on the sale price were based on the OP’s gun being sold by a private party, which I think is the case. We all know that big auctions really bring out the stupid prices where the folks with boat loads of money get in the “I’ll show you” mode. That’s a lot different than than what is going on here as Henry just confirmed. A lot of us common folks won’t even consider these auctions because that’s where stupid meets stupid and we can’t/won’t afford that. Peter

Thanks for the replies. He wants 5000.00 and guaranties 100 %  original and 98% condition. I wish it was octagon.

Thanks Gerald

Peter, Wow,you were right in there on the value. The prices have really fallen on standard guns compared to the red book values, however I agree with Bert and you, at auction the gun would fetch a higher value. I’m like everyone else I like guns with special features but to find a standard gun in very high condition don’t come by very often. I have a high condition 38-55 in take down configuration and thought I would add a standard configuration to my collection.

Once again thanks so much for your opinions   Gerald
