Hello group!  new member here and was hoping you could help explain something.  i have recently purchased a Winchester 1894.  serial number 152XXX.  I found online a site that lists Winchester serial number ranges and dates.  My serial number falls into the date range of 1898-1899.  I have just received my Cody Museum letter that states a date of 1902.  From the serial number list, 1902 should be closer to 273xxx in the serial numbering.  Could anybody shed some light on the situation.

Chris,

If you used any online (internet) source other than this website, the Winchester Model 1894 DOM information is not accurate. The information on the Cody factory letter is the correct date of manufacture. Serial number 53941 was the last seria number in the year 1898.

Perhaps this might help a little for those who are looking at an earlier date of manufacture.  

Go to the end of the Blue Book Of Gun Values and look up your Winchester in the SERIALIZATION section (starting on page 2465 in the 35th Edition).  Some models have 2 different year ending serial numbers, the so-called Madis numbers and the Polishing Room Numbers or SNA (Serial Number Application).  The biggest point of contention here are the thousands of model 1892’s and 1894’s that fall out of the FIRST YEAR PRODUCTION range when using the SNA numbers.
