so I am sure this has been asked before, and after about an hour of looking through the archives- I figured I’d just ask.

would a full magazine with a half octagon half round barrel be the less desirable than a half magazine? I usually buy what I like, and I like the one I found but everything I have has full magazines and am not sure if I should wait for one with a half mag or go for it. So I though I would offer it up for comments.

thanks

Bill,

The half octagon with the full mag would be the better one value wise but everyone has their preferences so buy what you like.

This is just my personal opinion, but I like half and half with button mags in deluxe grade guns with fancy wood and checkering.  I also prefer crescent rifle butts.  On a standard sporting rifle,  I like half and half with full mag.

I agree with Bob.  Half mags and half octagon make a better shooter though.  I think they are balanced better.

It always comes down to CONDITION.  Be it half round with a full magazine or a half magazine, buy the firearm with more condition.

I understand the full mag/half round barrel is somewhat rare and I tend to like odd things.

Not true.  In my research survey of the Model 1894, I have recorded (152) with a ½ octagon barrel and a ½ mag, and (117) with a ½ octagon barrel and a Full length mag.  The configuration that is somewhat rare is a ½ octagon barrel and a ⅔ length magazine… I have found just (16) of them thus far.

I have a 1/2 octagon 1/2 round with half mag in both 30WCF & 38-55. These are more comfortable and balanced than all my other gun barrel configurations. I like them equally as much as full octagon.

Here are the serial numbers Bert for the survey if you don’t have them.

30WCF – crescent butt – half mag 58268 1899

38-55 – crescent butt – half mag 312611 1906
