This auction just ended today.  The photos aren’t that great but was just wondering what you fellow collectors think of this rifle.  Would it be considered a “deluxe”? Also what kind of estimated value would you put on this gun?  I was actually in on the bidding until I exhausted my available funds and gave up.

Don,

No, I would not consider it a “deluxe”. Instead, it is a standard ELW Take Down with a higher grade of wood. No Pistol Grip, No Checkering = Not a Fancy (deluxe).

Thanks Bert.  What do you think of the $3,700 selling price?

Don,

It it truly is an 1898 (antique), somebody got it at a very reasonable price.  Model 1894 ELW Rifles in the 38-55 caliber are hard to come by, especially with a 26-inch barrel (most were 22″ or 24″).

Nice rifle. No mention of the serial number, or a letter.  It would be interesting to see how it would have lettered.

This rifle appeals to me from several points of view.  However, I surely would not have bid without knowing the serial number.
