I picked up a old 1894 take-down rifle in .30 wcf that has a ton of play in the receiver to barrel fit. Ser. 296021. I sure hope there is some adjustment when I get this dude apart. Likely will just be a wall hanger if not. Octagon barrel w/ full tube mag. and no sign of bluing left. A bunch of buggered screws too, but all for a Walmart price. My first take-down.

One question on this 1894. The butt stock is nickel plated. I’ve seen others with the same and was just wondering if this is factory and common. I have a couple of others that I need to letter and I guess this one will also.

Do you mean the buttplate? If so, it’s not common and probably not factory. Buttplates were nickeled on guns with full nickel, and half-nickel finishes. And they are scarce. That said, I do have a high wall with a nickeled Swiss buttplate. No other nickel on the gun.
