I was in Minneapolis this week on business and I happened by Cabelas. In the Gun Library I bought another vintage Winchester rifle
1894
Pistol Grip
Short Magazine
Take Down
Octagon to Round barrel
Crecent Butt Plate
Marbles Tang Sight
Perfect bore
Perfect action
(Unfortunatly, it was drilled and taped for a side mount scope mount and it has a 4X El Paso Weaver scope)
The stock has a repairable crack following the grain…..
I paid $750
Is this a rare combination of features.
They are shipping it to my FFL and I didn’t write down the serial number to date it.
Any comments are appreciated.
Hello,
The combination of features are not rare by any chance but they also would not rate as common. What is the caliber of the rifle? The fact that the receiver has been drilled and tapped is a deal killer for collectors. Photos and the serial number will be very helpful when you finally receive the rifle. As a shooter you may be at the upper end of potential value.

Thanks for the reply…it is a 32 Win Spl, but I might have it bored and rifled to my favorite 38-55.
My plan is to TIG weld up the holes and have the receiver recased. This won’t be a collectable so I’m not concerned about resale value.
I’m a nut for Take Downs………..I built my first one myself on a Rossi rifle .
I wrote an article about it on my web site:

I have 3 other takedowns, new reproductions from Mirkou
1886 45-70
1892 38-40
1892 45LC
I want to add a few vintage TD rifles to the collection…..
