Is my assessment that the butt plate, lever, and hammer have been refinished on this 1892? Those 3 pieces don’t seem to match the condition of the rest of the gun. Also, if the lever and hammer are case-colored, then shouldn’t the butt plate be case-colored as well?

Good morning Don,
I certainly agree that the lever and hammer are redone and the butt plate should be CC also. If you can get the full SN I would love to add the gun into my research. So far I have not seen this one based on the bluing pattern on the receiver.

Hi Michael,
I e-mailed Ward’s Auction for the complete serial number, but here’s the response I got:
Hi Don
We do not give out full S/N
What kind of info do you need?

I went to the Oregon Arms Collectors show today and guess what I saw? Wards Auction had a display table with this same 1892 sitting on it. I quickly jotted down serial number 656653 and went into hiding. No alarms, no sirens, no police, and no bouncer to throw me out of the show…Anyway, the lever, hammer, and butt plate are definitely refinished…
