I recently purchased a Winchester 1892 made in 1905. It has a 20″ barrel. So I was wondering if it was original or has it been cut down. I cant get photos to upload, but you can check out the pics here. https://app.photobucket.com/u/pwrtrip96 I really would appreciate any info you guys could give me. Thanks again.
Based on what I see in the pictures you have, it appears that the barrel has been cut down (shortened). You can get a Factory letter from the Cody Firearms Museum (CFM) records office that will provide the “as manufactured” information.

And based on the pictures you provided the link to, the gun pictured has an octagon barrel and a steel fore end cap. Features found on a rifle that typically would have a 24 inch barrel.
A typical M1892/92 carbine would have a 20 inch round barrel and would have no steel fore end cap.
And as Bert suggests, a factory letter would get you the info on what it was when it left Winchester.
Hello,
Whoever cut the barrel down also shortened the fore stock and exposed the cutout for the correct fore end cap position. The rear sight is not positioned correctly. The caliber stamp is in the wrong spot. And the magazine end cap is not correct for the SN range of the gun.
