Hello,

While working on my survey I was sent these images of a Model 1892 rifle in Australia.  For some reason the receiver has been altered with a cut out on both sides at the top.  Does anybody have any idea of why this might have been done?

Possibly for ease of single shot loading?. I guess with rear lock up and still plenty side strength for the bolt , it would be OK for low pressure loading. ??

I shoot Levers and all actions ,   single shot , myself , as it allows me leeway in bullet seating,  to extend Cartridge overall length  longer than the limiting factor of  action  Feed length ,  for the best accuracy from that chamber. As a general rule , length with the bullet almost touching lands provides the best accuracy

However even with my clumsy fingers, I will not be trying the pictured receiver cut out method on any of my guns!!

Instead of crimping I use tight neck tension on the bullet, This method also makes brass length trimming for uniformity for crimp un-nessessary.

Of course not practicle for hunting

Phil
