I picked up a 1892 with a US Property stamp, so what was the reason for that stamp, over seas use ?

The odds are 99% that it is a fake marking.

I agree with Bert.  The reason for the stamp if so the seller can get more money for it.  This is becoming so very common these days.

Ted, just so you get a straight answer the reason some guns are marked US Property is because that’s what they were.  But the type-model was a popular civilian gun so it was stamped to help prevent it walking away.
