 Idle curiosity strikes again.     Are there particular reasons that the buttplates of 1892 rifles and carbines are such different shapes ?

I think the Carbine style is more intended to come up quick to the shoulder for snap shooting , and the contour of the rifle butt is more for precise positioning centering of the shoulder/ arm for more deliberate firing

Hello,

The butt plates on the Model 1892 carbines and sporting rifles are pretty much identical to those also found on the Model 1873 and the Model 1894 examples.  There is nothing specifically unique the the plates on the 1892 configurations.
