I am looking at an 1890 Delux, .22 Long, #146156. About a nice smooth 70% blue, nice wood, bore bright showing light wear, solid action. Standard rear sight and folding 2 position front sight. The frame serial number is sharp, but there is no serial number on the barrel unit. The area where the serial number normally is has not been altered and is shaped properly. He wants $700, but the lack of serial number on the barrel seems odd. MEMO0001-1.jpgImage Enlarger

There are two serial #’s on an 1890 to my knowledge…one on the bottom of the frame forward of the trigger assemble and the same serial # on the bottom tang. None on the barrel that I know of. Peter

Found out the 2 number procedure started a few years later.  How does the price sound?

No, all 1890’s are single caliber marked.

So what does it say on the barrel…”22 LONG” on the left flat right in front of the receiver? That’s how my 22 LONG is marked. Peter

Hello,

The Model 1890 rifle began to be marked with a pair of serial numbers during early 1905 in the SN 232000 range.  $700 is a deal IF the rifle actually does letter as a “deluxe” version with a checkered pistol grip stock.  Can you get better, higher resolution photos of the stock especially showing the wood to metal fit at the upper and lower tangs?

Thanks for the input. I bought it, the wood/metal fit is perfect.
