IMG_4603.jpegSo picked up 1891 mfg 1886 rifle in 45-70 today from a fairly local gun shop, that I normally hate going to because it’s all the same plastic and names I don’t recognize guns. But I do keep there gunbroker account on my watchlist and check every now and then to see if they have any used stuff on there. Well I noticed last night that they had a handful of used stuff posted and one being this 1886, had a buy it now price and a starting bid but no one had bidded yet. I had recently sold the only original 86 I had which was also a 45-70 rifle, that was kinda rough, but I got it for a good deal and did some cleaning on it and it had great mechanics. Guy who was buying another gun from me wanted a price and I gave him one and he took it. So when I seen this one local that had been refinished and was less than what I sold the rough one for, I had to jump on it, so went and checked it out and no one had bid yet and they actually gave me a little better deal on it not going though GB. When it was refinished it did have the serial number restamped on the lower tang, so waiting to hear back from Jessica with a serial search.

To be honest with you, I would rather have the rougher example.  At least it has some original finish.  The refinish does not plus it also appears there are extra screws in the frame where there was once a receiver sight.

Oh it wasn’t original lol I had gave it some bluing because when I first got it it was badddd. I’ll probably put a Lyman sight on it tbh so the screws is a plus for me, the mechanics on the other was eh sticky also

Why not have them both! Each tells a different story and are equally beautiful to me! Plus, Cowboy got a great deal on it. Double win. Congrats Cowboy!
