Here’s the link. It looks like a pretty nice and rare piece. I’m sure Bert will chime in shortly. Don’t see very many in 25-35, especially being a takedown with those special features. Surprised to see no factory letter accompanied in the listing.

I always laugh when the seller uses x’s in the serial number in their description, yet the show the full serial number in a photo.
It does look like a very nice single-shot in a nice chambering and other nice features. I like DST’s, like the TD feature and I really liked the SGB on this one.
It strikes me as overpriced but I might be behind the times.

Steve,
You are behind the times. If it was being sold in one of the larger auction houses, it would without any doubt hammer for more than the opening bid. If I had the spare $$$$ I would be bidding on that rifle myself!

Bert H. said That stated, it looks perfectly legitimate to me with the exception of the barrel mounted rear sight (which is a minor demerit).
An eyesore, but wouldn’t the customer have had to pay extra to have the slot omitted?
Yes it would have cost extra to omit the dovetail slot. That stated, Winchester had bins full of “blank pieces” on hand. A Lyman slot filler would compliment the No. 103 tang sight.

Vaguely remember seeing a note in one catalog advising that when the slot was omitted at extra cost, there would be no corresponding refund for the value of the rear sight, which may have struck customers as a bit of a raw deal; the “blank pieces” weren’t gratis either.

True, but the blank piece cost much less that omitting the dovetail slot.

Ended with no bids. If this were your gun would you re-list or move on to Plan B?

Starting the bid at that level is always a risk of scaring off potential bidders.
The smart ones will contact the seller directly. Big Brother Ebay makes this VERY difficult (email adds & phone nos are blocked), but maybe GB hasn’t yet enacted such prohibitions.

I’ve seen countless overpriced guns remain listed at the same price for many months, up to a yr & maybe beyond. The seller’s apparent theory is that since “there’s one born every minute,” he only has to bide his time.

If a person is serious about a rifle (that has a higher starting bid price) it’s wise to contact the seller before the auction ends. You can ask a question about the rifle but also try to get some contact information. Another method that works is if the seller has any other items currently listed (in this case, the seller has many items currently listed). Simply contact them through a question about that item and then get contact information or at least establish what his plan is for the rifle you are interested in.
