32-40

manufacture  date stamped

oct 7th 79.      

(Exactly how it looks). 1879 obviously 
but, if I look it up by ser  number it says. 1887

so which is it.?

also, I haven’t seen a date stamp in a forum. Is that normal?

Hello Michael,

Correct… the “Oct 7th, 1879” date is the Patent date that was assigned to John M. Browning’s very first firearm that he invented.  The serial number “11160” tells us that the rifle was manufactured in June of the year 1887.
