Mark,
Yes they did make some if requested. What is the serial number? I will check my survey. It will have some impact on the price but not much.

I have a very rough 1873 carbine with a rifle butt plate. It came out of Mexico in the mid 1960s. It had at one time been a prop gun for a Mexican movie studio. It letters as correct and at one time had a set trigger. The serial number if mine is 156347 A

Old Guns,
Did it letter with the set trigger? I assume its 44 caliber. I’m adding it to my survey. With yours I have 30 carbines with rifle butt plates out of 2856 carbines.

I have an 1873 src that letters as having been built with a rifle butt stock. The butt plate has a trap for a cleaning rod. Are these types of things rare? Is there any value added to the gun with the special ordered stock? Thanks!
I’ve never seen one, have photos?
Winchester Model 1873 44-40 circa 1886
Yes it shipped with the set trigger and in 44-40 on July 26 1884. The set trigger is no more having been replaced long ago. The same man who brought back the 73 also brought back a Model 1892 short rifle in 44-40. It has a 20 inch octagon barrel and an 8 inch forend. The buttplate is a rifle type with a trapdoor for a cleaning rod. The serial number is worn too bad to accurately make it out. These are 2 of the 4 guns I obtained from him. The other 2 were a Colt 44 Conversion and an 1874 Ainsworth Inspected Cavalry model. He had many other interesting guns that he brought back. Hes a pharmaceutical rep there in the 1960s.
