Anyone familiar with the markings ” H.S. ” in very small block letters on an 1873 rifle ?
The markings are on the right stock side next to the receiver, the right side forearm next to the cap, and on the butt plate outer right side.
Not on the barrel or receiver. It seems unusual to see a personal marking on a rifle in 3 places and on both wood and metal. Letters are slightly smaller than letters on a martially marked Henry. Might be an institution ?

Bill,
Never seen those markings before. I would guess its someones initials.

Pictures? There worth a thousand words, or something like that!
It very well could be a dealer’s mark or something of that nature. But pictures of it would help narrow that down.
Sincerely,
